International Jazz Festival 2018
Cape Town Convention Center (23 March 2018 – 24 March 2018 )
Each year the Cape Town International Jazz Festival (CTIJF) hosts a number of free masterclasses, where those in the music industry have the opportunity to learn from business professionals and established artists. Recognising that an artist’s music is their business, and that knowledge is king, the CTIJF created a series of smaller and more intimate workshops in 2016 called uMculo Wam – aimed at students and those considering a career in show business.
Meaning ‘My Music’, the uMculo Wam mentorship programme and masterclass aim to arm participating youngsters with the ability to make informed choices and help them get the right start.
Billy Domingo, CTIJF Festival Director encourages young musicians and music educators from the surrounding areas to register early, saying that seats are limited. “As most will know by now, the CTIJF is much more than a weekend-long music festival. It is in fact an incubator for musicians and event personnel. It is our duty to drive a sustainable events and entertainment industry in South Africa and for this reason, we created a number of mechanisms to ensure we maintain standards and nurture homegrown talent, developing them into seasoned and successful professionals.Bookings
Gin, let’s face it, has taken the Mother City (and actually the entire planet) by storm. And, being summer, there’s hardly a better way to cool down than with a G&T. Now in its third year, this fabulously refreshing festival affords Capetonians the chance to sample loads of locally made – and internationally popular – gins at The Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock.
Small-batch producers such as Ginifer, Inverroche, New Harbour, Hope on Hopkins, Bloedlemoen Gin, Six Dogs Gin, and more, will be showcasing their artisanal wares. And, of course, a selection of your favourite international brands will be back, as well as some exciting newbies, and two USA first-timers – all of which are available for sampling.Bookings
